The art of coloring nails started in 9th century and later on, became
a necessity for women. Over decades, new styles and colors set it and
one peculiar fashion with regards to nail art that was introduced was
styling the shapes of nails: square, round, rectangular, triangle, flat
etc.
Beautification of nails commenced about 7000 years ago with
Egyptian’s coloring their nails black, Muslims coloring their nails with
Heena and Japanese coloring their nails with scented oils. Coloring
nails however was not enough and people began giving new shapes and
dimensions to their nails.
Basic rules for nail shaping
Some advices to help you shape your nails!
It doesn’t matter if one has long, slender or short, stumpy fingers. One can always beautify
the hands by growing, cutting, trimming, shaping and polishing one’s
nails. The nail shape that best suits one’s hand should be taken up. The
two nail proportions i.e. length and width should be kept in mind.
Nails should always be longer than wider. Square nails always make the
fingers long shorter, on the other hand, rectangular or a little
circular nail shape makes the fingers appear longer. If you have thick/
short fingers, then star growing your nails. Before giving your nails a
proper shape, make sure that they have grown considerably. Another
technique to give your nails an elongated and flat look is to never
apply the nail polish on the edges. Leave a millimeter at the edges,
thus, giving your nails a less thick appearance.
Types of nail shapes
A variety of nail shapes to pick from!
We usually adhere to a particular nail shape that we feel comfortable
in but there are a lot more to choose from. Pointed Nails give an
elongated appearance to your nails. It adds a perfect amount of flare to
one’s already fashion forward
personality. Round Nails are for people who prefer unshaped nails or who
have jobs that require them not to style their nails. This shape helps
soften your hands. Oval Nails give the appearance of a flat nail-bed,
thus, elongating fingers. Square Nails coupled with French manicure are
timeless. It balances the length of long fingers and enhances the short
fingers.
